Saved by Faith. Changed by Faith.

Paul and James are often understood to be in conflict over the relationship between faith and works, but both teach that salvation begins with God's grace and results in a life of obedience. Paul emphasizes that we cannot earn our salvation through religious performance or obedience to the law, while James insists that genuine faith necessarily produces good works. Rather than contradicting one another, they reveal two essential truths: we can rest completely in what Jesus has done for us, and we are called to actively participate in the transformation he is working in us. Discipleship is not an optional activity for especially committed Christians; it is the natural response of everyone who has received God's grace.
