You Already Know. Now What?

James insists that being a follower of Jesus involves more than knowing, hearing, or even agreeing with what Jesus says. The absurdity of looking carefully into a mirror and immediately forgetting what you saw illustrates the spiritual danger of encountering God’s Word without responding to it. Instead, James calls us to keep looking intently into the “law of liberty”—the gospel—and to persevere in actually doing what it says. The Good News can’t become old news: continued fascination with the gospel should produce continued transformation in our lives.
