You Are More Than What You Have

James speaks into a church where economic hardship was severe and the divide between rich and poor was impossible to ignore. Yet his answer to both groups is surprisingly similar: your circumstances don't tell you who you are—your relationship with God does. The poor can boast because Christ has given them an exalted identity, while the rich should embrace humility because wealth is temporary and ultimately meaningless in eternity. James therefore challenges Christians not merely to possess money differently, but to love it less, particularly by noticing and generously meeting the needs of people around them.
